I’ve just returned from the first ever International Ogg Vorbis conference which was held in Yosemite this past weekend. I’d like to write more about that conference, but first I feel an obligation to explain what is happening with this blog.

Late last week corporate headquarters called to inform me that Vlad and I would be sharing this blog. Apparently they feel that I’m not up to speed on some of the new technology being developed for our Pütz product line. So Vlad, being the Chief Product Engineer (CPE) has been asked to post from time to time.

I’ll be honest, I’m not crazy about this idea. The truth of the matter is that English is not Vlad’s first language. In fact, it’s not even his second language. Also, he has a tendency to voice some rather eccentric political opinions. And sports! Don’t get him started talking about sports!!!

I was hoping to convince management that Vlad should have his own insider blog, but corporate said “No way, we need to save money. You two will just have to share”. Really, those were their exact words. Apparently that t-shirt recall is having an impact on our bottom line.

I was hoping to have an opportunity to prepare all of you for Vladimir’s arrival. Unfortunately I now see that Vlad has already introduced himself. Not only that, he’s already going on about the Mariners. This is what I would call a bumpy start.

Now about the Ogg Vorbis conference. As most of you know, the DuroSport company has supported the Ogg Vorbis format since the beginning. In fact, we’ll probably be phasing out mp3 support in favor of Ogg Vorbis in all of our future products. That’s how seriously we take our commitment to Ogg Vorbis.

Not only did I attend the Ogg Vorbis conference, I also participated in a panel discussion titled “Odd Vorbis – Unique Implementations of the Ogg Vorbis Standard”. My presentation focused on DuroSport’s efforts to expand Ogg Vorbis to support 301 channels, which would be a significant improvement over the current limitation of 256 channels. Our goal is to build a truly portable “Wall Of Sound” by allowing users of our next generation player to connect their portable device to 301 speakers. Mr. Phillip Spector will like this very much.

Vlad can probably talk more about the interface. Apparently there are some connectivity challenges when you’re trying to plug that many speakers into a portable player. Fortunately, we do not produce those tiny portables that are easily lost or broken. Our larger players are more sturdy and naturally support more connectivity options.

That’s all for now. I’ve already said too much.

I’m back from Moldova and I’ve never been more tired in my life. First of all there was some big terrorist scare at the airport the morning I was flying out. Had to dump three bottles of gator aid and a perfectly good fifth of Wild Turkey at the security point. My flight was 12 hours late. By the time I got to may parents place in the Moldovan countryside it was three days later. I spent all of 24 hours at home before turning around and coming back. Still, I had a chance to do some fishing and bowling, we played shuffle board, and I did see a few good accordion acts perform at the local tavern. That part was pretty good.
